2022 Health Resolutions You Can Actually Keep

New Year's Resolutions come and go from year to year and sometimes, we set our goals too high. Other times, situations take place that make us forget about anything other than what is going on in the moment. This 2022, it's time to make some resolutions for your health that you will be able to keep! It's easy to keep resolutions when they are associated with things that you already do naturally. With that in mind, choose a few resolutions that will be easy to keep.

Smile More

The funny thing about smiles is that, even if you don't feel like smiling, it will make you feel better. Smiles are contagious! Even simply thinking about a happy memory will make you smile. If you smile at someone, they will smile back. You may be wondering what smiling has to do with a healthy resolution? If smiling improves your mood, it can also relieve stress and the more you smile, the better your outlook will be for the future. All of this adds up to better health and a brighter attitude.

Keep Your Electronics Out of the Bedroom

Most people (us included!) tend to live on their electronics. Using our phones as flashlights to see in the dark or as an alarm in the morning. However, you are more likely to be distracted by them during the night, if you have them easily accessible in the bedroom. This can disrupt your sleep and prevent you from getting the rest you need to get through the day. The key is keeping the electronics out of the bedroom and swapping for an old fashioned alarm clock. Or at least setting up “Do Not Disturb” to automatically turn on during your preferred sleeping hours. Here’s to finally getting the good night's sleep you deserve!

Stretch It Out

Stretching is something most of us need to do but tend to forget. If you work at a desk or spend your days driving, stretching for a few minutes throughout the day will improve your circulation and keep your joints from stiffening up. Reach up and stretch it out! Stretch from side to side and twist as you go. You will be surprised at how refreshed you feel when you sit back down. Take a few minutes, several times a day, to stretch and you will begin to feel the effects rather quickly.

Remember to Breathe

You breathe every minute of every day, but there are times when we forget to “breathe.” Breaths are normally somewhat deep. However, when you are under heavy stress, your breathing becomes more shallow. This reduces the amount of oxygen you take in and can have an effect on your ability to focus. If you start to feel stressed, upset, or angry, check your breathing. If it is shallow, take a few deep breaths to restore your natural breathing pattern. The deeper you breathe, the faster you will begin to take control of your emotions.

Sweeten Things Naturally

This resolution may not be so easy but it will taste amazing! Cut out as much processed sugar as possible and use honey to sweeten things naturally. Manuka honey with a high UMF rating will also provide a variety of health benefits, including boosting your immune system and improving mental clarity.

If you plan on making a New Years' resolution, make sure it is one you can keep. Choose healthy resolutions that are easy to keep and you will be on your way to a healthier, happier new year!
